Planting Tomatoes and Harvesting Baby Carrots

We transplanted our high tunnel tomatoes last week and we’re already starting to see the first blooms! Here are the three varieties that will be growing in the high tunnel: Sungold (orange cherry tomatoes), Caiman (red slicing tomatoes), and Valencia (orange slicing tomatoes). The lower branches of each tomato plant was pruned shortly after planting in order to improve air flow and reduce disease issues. Since we’re just started to see blooms on the Sungolds, it’s only a matter of time before we start to see the first baby tomatoes! We’ll make sure to keep you updated on their progress.

Freshly Harvested Baby Carrots

Baby carrots are making their way into season this week! We’ll have a mix of orange, yellow, and purple baby carrots at the farm stand that are delightfully sweet and crunchy. Their size makes them perfect for pairing with your favorite dip or enjoying them as a quick spring snack. Farmer Anna recommends roasting the baby carrots with some honey, nutmeg, and rosemary for a sweet and aromatic side dish. Or, you could pair them with our kohlrabi for a crunchy slaw.

Washed Baby Carrots

If you want to get a taste of our sweet baby carrots AND experience the spring transition on the farm, don’t forget to come to our Farm Tour this Saturday, March 11th, at 10:30am! You’ll be able to see all of the newly planted field tomatoes. And, you’ll get a sneak peek at all of the other spring crops we’ve been planting. Our Farm Tours are free of charge and open to the public but we ask that children be accompanied by an adult. We’d love to see you there!

In Season at the Farm Stand: Baby Carrots, Spring Onions, Purple Broccoli, Celery, Hakurei Turnips, Icicle Radishes, Kohlrabi, Collards, Cabbage, Kale, Spinach, Lettuce, and Cilantro.
