Description
Potatoes are an edible tuber in the nightshade family that range in color from yellow to red to purple. The above-ground parts of the potato plant are not edible. Potatoes are high in B vitamins and lutein.
Storage tips
Potatoes store best in cool, dry, and dark places like a pantry or root cellar. Store them in a cardboard box, basket, or mesh bag for up to 2 weeks.
Culinary tips
- Potatoes should not be eaten raw.
- The peel is edible though it’s often up to personal preference whether or not the peel is removed.
- Potatoes have a mellow flavor that pairs well with a plethora of foods and flavors. They can be boiled, steamed, baked, roasted, braised, stewed, or fried.
- Try adding cubed potatoes to your next soup, stew, or curry.
