An Introduction

Welcome to the farm! Sunset Farm is a 1-½ acre farm nestled in the heart of the Jordan Ranch community. Through the production of safe, healthy produce and our educational programming, we’re excited to share a local and sustainable model for food production with Jordan Ranch residents. Our farm-fresh produce is available every Saturday at our farm stand (on the farm) from 10am-noon so make sure to stop by.
Meet Farmer Josh! If you’ve happened by the farm you might have spotted him hard at work tending to the vegetables. Josh was farming in the Richmond area for close to two years before he found his way to Sunset Farm. His experience farming in this area means that he is well acquainted with our clay-heavy soils and climate. Josh loves to focus his efforts on vegetable varieties that will not only grow well in our climate but will have optimal flavor as well. His favorite vegetables to grow are carrots and radicchio.
Since it’s winter on the farm, our fields are dominated by cool-season crops like root veggies, brassicas, and leafy greens. Our last harvest included carrots, beets, turnips, broccoli, radicchio, Daikon radishes, and Pak Choi. In anticipation of spring, we’ve been transplanting lettuces like Coastal Star romaine. And, even though they might not be on your mind in the middle of winter, tomatoes are being seeded in the greenhouse! Here are some of the varieties you can look forward to: Paisano, Sun Gold, and Cherokee Purple.
