Description

Also known as the asparagus bean or snake bean, long beans are similar in taste and texture to green beans but are much longer and a bit thinner. Long beans are picked when young and tender though the beans from the dried out pods can be prepared as you would any other dried bean. They come in green and purple varieties.

Storage tips

Store in a bag in the crisper draw of your fridge for up to 5-7 days.

Culinary tips
  • Long Beans can be eaten fresh or cooked: try boiling, steaming, stir-frying, or pickling.
  • Try adding chopped long beans to a Thai or Indian-inspired curry or add them to a stir-fry of your favorite veggies.
  • Long Beans can easily become waterlogged: if boiling, do so for only 1-2 minutes.
