Though they are called “potatoes”, sweet potatoes are in a completely separate family than standard potatoes: sweet potatoes are a member of the morning glory family while standard potatoes are members of the nightshade family.

Description

Sweet potato greens are the above ground shoots and greens of the sweet potato tuber. The flowers and leaves are similar in appearance to their morning glory cousins. The greens are tender with a subtle sweetness.


Storage tips

Keep sweet potato greens in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer of your fridge for up to 3-4 days.


Culinary tips
  • The greens can be added raw to salads or cooked.
  • Cook the leaves as you would spinach: braised or sauteed.
  • Try adding the greens to an omelet or braise them in coconut milk or heavy cream before tossing with ravioli.
